Local Sightseeing in Leh

When you arrive Leh, It is advised to rest for the first day. And then go for sightseeing the next day. The reason is Altitude sickness and Ladakh is at a very high altitude. The change from low altitude to high altitude can cause a negative effect on your health. Low altitude places contains a higher amount of oxygen in the atmosphere than places of higher altitude. The one day rest is for acclimatization to high altitude.

On the first day, you need to rest until eve. In the evening you can roam around the Leh market. As, the places like Pangong and Nubra are at a higher altitude then Leh, it is advised to plan the next day for local sightseeing.

Leh Main Market

Leh main market or Leh bazaar is 7km far from Leh airport. There are a lot of accommodations and restaurants in Leh bazaar and around it. Changs-pa road and Zangsti road are very busy with a lot of tourists roaming around. A lot of travel agencies and money exchange agents can be found on these roads. You can also find pure pashmina shawls in Leh bazaar. Dry fruits like apricot which is grown and dried in Ladakh can be found in great varieties in Leh bazaar. In Leh bazaar, you will find all types of restaurants. Chinese food like momos and chowmein can be found in a lot of varieties.

Shanti Stupa

Shanti Stupa is one of the best tourist attractions in Leh. It’s in Changs-pa region You can reach the Shanti stupa stairs in 10 minutes by walk from Leh market. Then, you have to ascend around 500 stars to reach at the top. Although it is advised to not use the stairs on the day or day after of visiting Leh. Also, you can go directly to the top driving on a drivable road. The altitude at the top is around 14000 ft. You can see the entire Leh town from the top.

West-Leh sightseeing Tour
